This morning, Wednesday, the Eastern Military Region thwarted, at one of its fronts within its area of ​​responsibility, an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle quantities of narcotic substances coming from Syrian territory.

An official military source in the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army said: “The Border Guard forces, in coordination with the military security services and the Anti-Narcotics Department, detected, through forward observations, an attempt by a group of smugglers to cross the border illegally from Syrian territory to Jordanian territory.” He added that rapid reaction patrols were deployed and the rules of engagement and direct shooting were applied to them, which led to the arrest of one of the smugglers and the retreat of the others into the Syrian depth.

The source indicated that after intensifying the search and inspection operations of the area, narcotics and a Kalashnikov firearm were found, in addition to quantities of ammunition, and the seized items were transferred to the competent authorities.

The source stressed that the Jordanian Armed Forces continue to deal with all force and firmness, with any threat on the border fronts, and any endeavors intended to undermine and destabilize the security of the homeland and intimidate its citizens.
