The head of the Doctors Syndicate, Ziad Al-Zoubi, said, on Tuesday, that doctors working in the Ministry of Health may go on strike if their bonuses are not approved by the Prime Ministry, before May 26.

Al-Zoubi added that the meeting of the union’s general assembly will be on May 12, expecting that the quorum will not be reached, and therefore the meeting will be held on May 26.

He pointed out that the Minister of Health signed a clause in an agreement during the past year, and that the clause provides for proceeding with the procedures for raising the allowance from 35% to 55%.

He pointed out that the Syndicate conveyed the problems faced by doctors working in the Ministry of Health, indicating that the Syndicate’s reference is the Ministry of Health.

And he indicated that the minister agreed to items of concern to doctors working in the Ministry of Health, except for the item of raising the allowance, where the minister said that, based on the consultation of the advisors, the procedures for raising the allowance will be taken.

He explained that there are approximately 6,500 doctors working in the Ministry of Health, indicating that the doctors of the Ministry of Health are distributed between health centers and hospitals.

He pointed out that the newly graduated doctor works in the ministry, and receives a salary of 480 dinars; In the case of shifts, it may reach 600 dinars, while the specialist doctor will receive about 1,000 dinars, and the consultant will receive 1,500 dinars, as the doctor reaches the rank of consultant when he is 45 years old.

For his part, a member of the Parliamentary Health Committee, Tayseer Krishan, said that the committee trusts the Minister of Health, his effort, and his payment to obtain the work allowance as determined by the union and the ministry.

Krishan saw that the doctors’ allowance is not in the hands of the Minister of Health; Rather, the Minister of Finance and the Council of Ministers and finding the necessary allocations.
