Representative Adnan Mashuqa decided to keep his question open about the penetration of the phones of activists, journalists and politicians by the Israeli “Pegasus” program.

MP Mashuqa said that he asked the government about hacking the phones of journalists and activists and spying on them by the Pegasus program.

He said that the Ministry of Justice, in its response to the question, “has arrived at the issue of protecting the privacy of the Jordanian citizen, as all correspondence is considered a confidential means of communication that is not subject to censorship except by judicial order in accordance with the provisions of the law.”

He added, “The government’s responses were devoid of any opinion of the authorities concerned with cybersecurity regarding the reports of several organizations that indicated the existence of spying on the phones of several political and human rights figures.”

The Minister of the Interior commented on the MP Mashuqa’s question, stressing that the lawyer, “Hala Ahed, did not file a complaint with the Public Security Directorate regarding the hacking of her phone and spying on her, and she can file a complaint.”

He stressed that “there is no participation or coordination with this entity by the Ministry of Interior or the Public Security Directorate.”
