Folklore has always been on the side of women and described them with many good qualities, as they are the caring mother, the cooperative wife, and the loyal worker. All of this is gathered in the Egyptian women, and as they said in popular proverbs, “The smart woman flirts with a donkey’s man,” as Dr. Khaled, a professor of popular literature at the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University, explained. Abu Al-Layl told Al-Youm Al-Sabea that the idea of popular proverbs and their origin come from multiple narrations that were circulated by many in several situations until they reached us, including our proverbs today.
Shatra flirting with a donkey man
The professor of popular literature said that this proverb is said about the person about whom it is also said in proverbs that he “makes sherbet from fesikh”, the person who makes an effort, no matter how weak his abilities and his capabilities are limited or few and may not be non-existent, but he tries to be positive and purposeful, and he added that the proverb that He says, “The smart woman flirts with the man of a donkey.” It is said about a woman who, in most situations, is in control and capable of making the impossible.
The professor of popular literature added that the Egyptian woman has been honored since time immemorial, because she has many tasks on her shoulders. With a donkey’s leg, it is her ability to make a complete dress, even if the tools and capabilities are not present, or the tool that has a donkey’s leg with a lot of movement will not help, but it can indeed.
And he added that the Egyptian woman is the queen of the house, as she is his minister of finance, as was said in the heritage in many proverbs, which nourish this idea that we believe in to this day.
