“Iftaa” explains how to calculate zakat on land and calls for its speedy payment

On Sunday, the General Ifta Department clarified how to calculate the amount of zakat on owning land.
The “Iftaa” said on its Facebook account, “The ruling on zakat on land differs according to the intention of its purchaser.”
The clarification of the fatwa comes in response to a question he received saying, “I am saving a piece of land of 10 dunams for the children, so is zakat due on it, knowing that its price is three thousand dinars?”
And the answer came, “Praise be to God, and prayers and peace be upon our master, the Messenger of God. Plots of land that are purchased vary according to the intention of the purchaser. Because the reason for the obligation of zakat does not exist. Al-Khatib Al-Sherbiny said: “The offer becomes for trade if its intention is to earn it with pure exchange, and it is the one that spoils the corruption of its compensation as a purchase.”
The Consumer Protection Association had urged citizens, charities, national institutions and all well-off families to expedite the issuance of Sadaqat al-Fitr and Zakat funds and distribute them to needy families.
And the president of the association, Dr. Muhammad Obeidat, said, in statements received, “compassWe are approaching the last ten days of the holy month, so paying alms and zakat on money and property now will relieve the distress of the needy, the poor and the needy in the remainder of the holy month and will help them buy what they need of materials and Eid supplies for their children. That is, one of the best deeds that the believer does is to introduce joy to the poor and the needy.
