The import of oil barrels from Iraq has stopped since the beginning of this month, after the end of the memorandum of understanding that provides Jordan with crude oil, despite the approval of the Iraqi Council of Ministers to renew it.
The director of the company carrying Iraqi oil to Jordan, Nael Thiabat, said that the company had stopped importing oil until the memorandum was signed by the two countries.
Dhibat explained that the government must sign an agreement in order for the oil to be supplied to Jordan, indicating that the delay may be from the Iraqi side.
He referred to compensating the company for the days they stopped until the memorandum was signed, noting that the new memorandum allows the import of 10,000 barrels per day.
He indicated that 310,000 barrels of oil were imported during March 2023.
And Iraq agreed to renew the memorandum of understanding that provides Jordan with crude oil for a period of one year, after the Iraqi Council of Ministers approved the recommendation of the Energy Ministerial Council on Tuesday.
Jordan imports Iraqi crude oil according to a memorandum of understanding for the processing of crude oil signed between the Jordanian and Iraqi governments, in force since the beginning of September 2021.
