To the rhythm of traditional drums and bells, and in the heart of the National Historic Tainai Temple in the Taiwanese city of Tainan, Taipei Fashion Week for Fall 2023 opened, mixing traditional art shows, fashion shows and performing arts.

Vice President Lai Ching-ti, Minister of Culture Shi Zi, Mayor of Tainan Huang Weiqi as well as many public figures, artists and celebrities interested in fashion attended the opening.

“Fashion is a symbol of civilization,” Vice President Lai Ching-tee said in his speech at the opening ceremony. The fashion show is a window that represents the country’s progress and the art of living. Taipei Fashion Week not only reflects that Taiwan has important designers and brands; It also shows that Taiwan is able to integrate resources from all walks of life to provide a platform for the apparel chain to fully develop on the stage.

Meanwhile, Culture Minister Shi Zi said that the Taipei Fashion Week held by the Ministry of Culture has always advocated “sustainability and practicality, diversity, border crossing, and humanities.”

He pointed out that traditional temples are the oldest centers of culture and beliefs, and the performing arts surrounding beliefs and the visual arts for decorating temples all show local and indigenous Taiwanese art.

The opening included the display of seven fashion collections, in the production of which 7 designers collaborated with 7 artisans and artists, including shadow puppet artists, opera artists, traditional painting, life and paper carving.

The result of this collaboration is a unique series of 70 fashion pieces that, with music that blends traditional Bejuan music combined with Western classical or modern electronic music, is a feast for the senses.

Bob Jian The designer’s first collection came out

Entitled “Hunting Spirits”, it was inspired by a folklore troupe of a spiritual nature that usually performs in temples to expel evil spirits.

In the second collection, designer Chen Xiasheng and knot artist Wei Ziyuan have collaborated to create a collection that blends recycling, rope and knot art with fashion.

The third collection, designed by Tang Tsung-Chien, was inspired by a Taiwanese shadow puppet troupe, while the fourth blended sportswear and art on the walls of temples in order to offer a new vision of reproducing sportswear.

HSU Yen Line’s fifth collection was inspired by paper sculpture, blending pop culture and fashion design

Gioia Pan’s fifth collection expressed fashion’s relationship with opera through modern clothes with unique cultural characteristics.

And the latest collection, designer Chun-Yuan Jean, was inspired by 100-year-old paint artist Wang Ching Shuang.

The Taipei Fashion Week will continue until April 9, and the rest of the shows will be held in the capital, Taipei, from March 24 to 29. It will include 12 shows of different fashion brands in addition to the main show of sustainable fashion.
