Masks not only hide faces, but they may symbolize many things, especially if they are worn in a masquerade party or given to a child who has fun with them, but the students of the first year at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University, Department of Sculpture, who used masks in a completely different way, as they designed them in the manner of ancient civilizations and what they symbolize It is similar to the Mayan civilization that inhabited a large part of the Central American region and the ancient Egyptian, African, Japanese and Iraqi civilizations by designing one of the famous symbols of that period on masks.

Yara Ashraf, 19, who is one of the students participating in the project, said that the work is not collective because each student made his own mask with a distinctive idea and a symbol of civilization that he highlighted, as the number of students participating in the project reached about 43 students from the sculpture department, which is considered the first project to participate It included this number of students, and she continued that the project was for a material called puppets and masks, and they were required to make masks inspired by ancient civilizations.

Sculpting with clay, and this is the first stage of the design, and then pouring the mixture into the mold after determining the size of the face, and she continued: “Each of us chose a different civilization, and we began to draw sketches, and the best design was chosen, and we start with the rest of the implementation steps, the first of which is carving the mask, and then casting a plaster mold In order for us to work on casting the mask with layers of paper.” Then the last stage is coloring, with the selection of costumes that are in line with the mask and express it and the civilization that it symbolizes. God, and the reason for it is our diligence and the tiredness of the repeaters and their staying up late with us so that the work turns out sweet.”
