Amman – Raed Sobeih
Video scenes circulating on social media of herds of stray dogs attacking citizens still terrify Jordanian citizens and social media activists, at a time when the government does not show a reaction commensurate with the growing anger towards the negligent government and those crying over “animal rights.” Associations and others linked to external support, and accusing them of being silent about risks that threaten the lives of citizens in return for a “handful” of financial support that the government and these associations receive in return for legislation to prevent the killing of animals, especially if they threaten human life.
Tampering with the security of society and tendentious silence
The matter did not stop at this point, which prompted the professor of Islamic law, Dr. Ahmed Al-Shahruri, to accuse those silent on this growing problem of “tampering with the security of society.”
He said in a tweet that the attack of (stray) dogs on Jordanian citizens is a sign of tampering with the security of society, adding: “Let the rights of (herds) fall.”
As for the activist Ziyad Abhis, he went further by saying: At the same time that the massacres of #Jenin and #Nablus escalate and at the hands of the #summit_of_shame in Aqaba, stray dogs become uncontrollable in #Jordan, and the state is unable to combat them, and they become fierce, and it is forbidden to kill them or “transgression” “On it, it escapes to people daily, and it becomes a central headline for the news; Is it really a “coincidence”?!

For his part, activist Abdullah Saad al-Din said: Every person or “association” has a campaign with dogs against the people… Please give me a practical and radical solution… that protects human children from the aggression of these creatures!
And he continued by saying: I, in my capacity as an affected citizen, is asking the state for a solution…..in the event that there are no immediate applicable solutions…..I certainly will not spare the life of a dog over the life of my son or daughter…. I mean, I don’t understand the disgusting logic that I’m talking about, that it’s forbidden to keep dogs sad and never deal with them with bullets or poison, but “children” and people’s children are sad and let dogs eat them, they don’t matter….. No, we have to live with dogs in their homes!!!!
In his turn, trade unionist and activist Noureddine Nadim said in a tweet to him: In a conversation about “stray dogs”, he told me in his colloquial tone: “Take care of your concerns and the concerns of the poor.
The activists did not stop at the harsh criticism of the government and civil society institutions. Rather, they went on to ridicule the government’s suspicious silence and ask citizens to file complaints with the judiciary against dogs that attack citizens and endanger their lives.
Iftaa: It is permissible to kill a venomous dog
Activists on social media circulated a fatwa for the Fatwa Department, in which it said that if the dog’s harm was merely barking or trespassing on property, then the principle is that it is not permissible to kill it.
The department permitted the killing of the harmful, venomous dog that attacks human life and property, causes terror and spreads fear in society, especially children.

And the department said, in an old fatwa that it issued since 2019, that the principle is that it is not permissible to kill a dog, but the barren dog is excluded from that.
She added that there is nothing wrong with getting rid of the venomous dog, by killing it, if its evil cannot be repelled by anything other than killing, and it cannot be sheltered through associations specializing in the care of such dogs. She pointed out that one of the major purposes of Islamic law is to preserve human life.
Have mercy on people, you who are sensitive to stray dogs
The educational advisor, Bushra Arabiyat, confirmed in statements to “compassWhat is happening in the community of incidents of stray dogs biting children and school students is really worrying, stressing at the same time that “the most disturbing is the defense of stray dogs by a group of sensitive people,” as she put it.
Arabiyat pointed out that “this group does not walk in areas where stray dogs are common and has not yet experienced barrenness, and this group raises its dogs in homes, drags them in the street in front of the community, and does not take into account that they harm others with their actions, so we hope to get rid of this phenomenon.” “.

And she continued her speech by saying: “As for what has spread in recent years of licensing the presence of dogs and cats inside apartments in residential buildings, under the pretext of animal welfare, and they do not take into account that the sounds and breaths of these animals are harmful to the neighbors, and the question here is for those who give a license to these, are there no rights for neighbors? So be kind to the human being!”
Arabiyat stressed that the recent spread of stray dogs in residential neighborhoods, so that they wake up in the middle of the night or early in the morning to the sound of dogs barking, arriving and wandering in the streets, and when reporting this electronically; Because complaints over the phone are not available, the response includes animal welfare, isn’t it more appropriate to be human as well?!
