Representative Ahmed Al-Qatawneh directed a sharp attack on the government, due to water scarcity, especially in the regions and governorates of the south, indicating that a large part of the water of the Al-Ghamr region goes to the benefit of the occupation, which annually obtains 4,800,000 cubic meters of water.
The deputy’s speech under the dome of Parliament on Monday sparked widespread controversy, especially after he indicated that the occupation was obtaining large quantities from the Al-Ghamr area, which Jordan recently recovered.
How long does the occupation take place?
The media spokesman for the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Omar Salama, said that the flood water is obtained by the Israeli occupation according to the Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty, “Wadi Araba.”
He explained in a radio statement that the Jordanian state had recovered the land of immersion, but with regard to the water wells, the fourth clause of the water annex in the Wadi Araba agreement gave the Israeli occupation the right to use the water of the groundwater wells that they dug.
He pointed out that the agreement included the right of the occupation to dig another well in the event that any well stopped pumping water, pointing out that the occupation extracts 4 million and eight hundred thousand cubic meters of water from 9 drilled wells, in the time that allows them to extract 10 million cubic meters annually, stressing That the agreement prohibits any of the parties to do what causes a decrease in the pumping of that water.
He noted that the immersion water is obtained by the occupation free of charge, stressing that the Israeli occupation has the right to enter those lands to carry out the necessary maintenance of those wells.
The water file is under the dome
Representative Ahmed Al-Qatawneh opened the file of the water crisis, especially drinking water, especially for the southern governorates, stressing the need to find a solution to this crisis, as the Kingdom has water resources that make it independent of any agreements with the occupation.
According to an official response, “There are 9 artesian wells in the Al-Ghamr region, with an estimated production capacity of 400,000,000 cubic meters, which were previously used by the other side (the Zionist entity), while the people of Karak suffer from the problem of not collecting 500 meters.
Al-Qatawneh considered that this comes in the context of deliberate thirst, asking, “Is this how the sons of those who fought the battles of Jerusalem, Bab al-Wad and Latrun are rewarded, or is this required in order for us to sign the agreement with the Zionist entity?”
Al-Qatawneh continued, “What is granted from the recovered immersion water to the brothers of monkeys and pigs is the least that Karak Governorate needs, and when we read that the government granted an Arab prince a license to drill 6 wells in Disa, pumping two and a half million cubic meters of water annually for recreation and tourism, we are thirsty.
Peace Agreement
The Peace Treaty (Wadi Araba) stated that with regard to the Al-Ghamr area, the two parties agree to apply a special regime to the area, on a temporary basis, as stipulated in this annex. For the purpose of this appendix, the area is described and there is recognition that in this area under Jordanian sovereignty there are special Israeli use rights relating to the land (the land users), of which the area consists.
According to the agreement, Jordan pledges to grant, without charging fees, unrestricted freedom to the land users, their guests, or their employees to enter, exit, use, and move within its borders, and to allow the land users to freely waive their rights to use the land in accordance with the Jordanian law in force.
Kamal, the article states that Jordan does not apply its customs and immigration legislation to land users, their guests, or their employees who cross directly from “Israel” to the region with the aim of accessing the land for the purpose of agriculture, tourism, or any other purpose agreed upon.
Jordan and the occupation signed an agreement of intent stipulating that Jordan would supply “Israel” with 600 megawatts of electricity, through a solar photovoltaic farm in the southern Jordanian desert.
On the other hand, the Israeli occupation supplies Jordan with 200 million cubic meters of desalinated water through a special station on the Mediterranean Sea.
Water crisis
Representative Ahmed Al-Qatawneh said, “We look at the water and we cannot drink from it. We are in Karak, especially in the summer, thirsty, and sometimes there are houses where the water does not reach for two months..”
He added, in a statement to:compassOn the other hand, Disa water waters the gardens and farms of non-Jordanians, and waters animals and birds and fills the swimming pools of the influential, while the people of the southern governorates do not find drinking water.
Aqaba summit
This comes after the Jordanian city of Aqaba hosted a joint summit that brought together the occupation, Egypt, the United States of America, and the Palestinian Authority to discuss the truce in the West Bank during the holy month of Ramadan.
“We strongly condemn the Aqaba summit, which represents a lifeline for the occupation and seeks an Arab-Arab confrontation, and this will not be and is not acceptable for Arab countries to achieve protection for the Zionist entity,” MP Al-Thaqtaawneh said.
He added, “It is enough for the Jordanian government to schizophrenia in the political personality, as there are very severe contradictions that are not consistent with the position of the Jordanian people, who have always stood by the Palestinian people.”
