Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh, in the presence of the Emirati Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Sultan bin Ahmed Al-Jaber, inaugurated, on Saturday, the Baynunah solar power plant, near the Al-Muwaqqar area, as the largest station of its kind in the Kingdom, with a production capacity of 200 megawatts.

The Baynunah solar plant produces more than 560 megawatt-hours of energy annually, enough to meet the annual energy needs of approximately 160,000 homes.

The project contributes to providing half of Jordan’s need for electricity from renewable sources by 2030 as a strategic goal that the Kingdom seeks to achieve.

The Baynunah plant is the largest project of its kind in the Kingdom, being launched by the Baynunah Solar Energy Company, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar”, a world leader in the field of renewable energy, and the Finnish investment and asset management group “Talerie”.

The station contributes to avoiding the emission of (360) thousand tons of carbon dioxide annually, which is equivalent to neutralizing the emissions resulting from approximately (80) thousand cars from the roads.

The project contributes to supporting the realization of the Kingdom’s goals related to climate and clean energy, in addition to providing new job opportunities and supporting the economic development process.
