Senate Speaker Faisal Al-Fayez affirmed the deepening of Jordanian-Canadian relations based on mutual respect, serving common causes and everything that serves the interests of the two friendly peoples.
This came during official talks held by Al-Fayez at the Senate House, today, Wednesday, with his counterpart, Canadian Senate President George Fury and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the second deputy speaker of the Senate, Abdullah Ensour, assistants to the President Mufleh Al-Rahimi and Alia Bouran, and the head and members of the Jordanian-Canadian Friendship Committee in the parliament. Along with the Canadian Ambassador to Amman, Tariq Khan.
Al-Fayez said that the Jordanian-Canadian relations are historical relations dating back to 1964, when the Canadian embassy was opened in Amman in 1967, while the Jordanian embassy in Canada was opened in 1973, and the Jordanian-Canadian relations witnessed development and growth in various political, economic and cultural fields, due to the interest of the two friendly countries in promoting Bilateral relations, and His Majesty King Abdullah II’s keenness to develop them in a way that enhances common interests.
Regarding the current situation in the region and the challenges facing Jordan, Al-Fayez said that Jordan is facing great economic difficulties due to the accelerating events in the region, in addition to the repercussions of the Corona pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war and its impact on the prices of energy and food commodities, in addition to Jordan hosting more than 1.3 million Syrian refugees. This puts direct pressure on the various vital sectors and infrastructures.
He pointed out that the Kingdom, under the directives of His Majesty, is carrying out comprehensive political, economic and administrative reforms aimed at empowering youth and women and enhancing political, parliamentary and party life in order to reach parliamentary governments. Economic reforms also aim at strengthening the investment environment in the Kingdom, facilitating procedures for investors and raising the level of services in order to improve lives. living citizens and facing economic challenges.
Al-Fayez appreciated the support provided by Canada to the Kingdom, especially in the fields of education, technical education, renewable energy, and programs aimed at supporting refugees in Jordan, stressing the importance of increasing Canadian investments in Jordan, raising levels of economic cooperation to broader horizons, increasing trade exchange, and working to remove everything that obstructs Upgrading and advancing the relations of the two countries.
He called for opening the labor market in Canada to Jordanians and facilitating procedures for them to obtain job opportunities in it, indicating that Jordan has highly qualified human resources in various fields.
He stressed that Jordan is a country that believes in peace and calls for it, and based on its consistent policy in this regard, His Majesty the King is making great and determined efforts to bring about peace and stability in the region and to end the Arab-Israeli conflict, in accordance with international legal resolutions and on the basis of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on The borders of June 4, 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital.
He also valued Canada’s positions in support of His Majesty the King’s efforts aimed at establishing a just peace in the region, and its support for just Arab causes, stressing that any solutions to the Palestinian issue that affect Jordan’s constants and supreme interests are rejected, and Jordan will not accept any solutions that change the legal and historical status quo in Jerusalem. Or prejudice the Hashemite guardianship over the Islamic and Christian sanctities in it.
Al-Fayez said that the international community, especially the major countries in it, is required to take practical measures, prompting the Israeli government to stop its daily brutal and racist practices against the Palestinian people, and its repeated violations of Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem, and to return to the peace process in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy and the two-state solution, pointing out that The continuation of Israeli practices would fuel conflict in the region and increase the spiral of violence in it.
He pointed out the Senate’s keenness to activate its parliamentary relations with the Canadian Senate, in a way that serves the common interests of the two friendly countries, and to unify their positions on various issues of common concern, which are being discussed in international parliamentary forums.
For his part, Canadian Senate Speaker George Fury praised Jordan’s great efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, to bring peace to the region and restore security and stability to it, stressing that Jordan is a friendly country to Canada and has a pivotal role towards various regional issues.
He stressed that his country supports the efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II, which calls for ending the conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis on the basis of the two-state solution, and in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.
Fury appreciated the great humanitarian efforts that Jordan provides to Syrian refugees and others, and the provision of education, health and a decent life for them, despite its limited resources and the challenges it faces.
He added that the two countries enjoy close bilateral relations, and are constantly seeking more cooperation in the trade, investment and economic fields, stressing that his country is keen to remove any obstacles that impede the activation of bilateral relations with Jordan in various fields.
He also indicated that Jordan, due to the security and stability it enjoys, and the encouraging investment environment, is a safe destination for investment.
During the official talks, an extensive dialogue took place in which the dignitaries stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in all fields, especially investment and economic ones.
The dignitaries presented the challenges facing Jordan in the sectors of water, energy, education, and health, and the repercussions left by the Syrian asylum on the various infrastructure facilities, calling for an increase in Canadian aid to Jordan, to enable it to face the challenges and continue its humanitarian role towards the Syrian refugees and provide them with services, until they are enabled to return to their homes. their country.
