The Director of the Meteorological Department, Raed Rafid Al-Khattab, said that the first half of February recorded the coldest temperatures and the highest rainfall in 30 years.

Al-Khattab explained, according to a statement today, Monday, that the Kingdom was affected in the first half of the current month of February by three depressions accompanied by air masses of polar origin, which led to a significant decrease in temperatures, precipitation and snowfall, as the rain totals during these depressions contributed to improving the rainy season. current and increased it in most regions of the Kingdom, at rates ranging between 2-34 of the general seasonal average rainfall.

He continued, the effect of very cold air masses continued to flow into the Kingdom’s territory until mid-February, which led to a drop in temperatures below zero degrees Celsius in some areas, and very cold weather prevailed during the day and extremely cold at night.

Al-Khattab added that the climatic statistics indicate that the rainfall total that the capital, Amman, witnessed during the first half of this month, is the highest for the same period in 30 years, and the average temperature in the first half of this month is the coldest for the same period in 30 years. In partnership with the year 2005, when the average maximum temperature in the capital, Amman, for the first half of this February was 9.5 C, which is 4 degrees Celsius lower than the general average for the same period, while the average minimum temperature was 3.5 C, which is 1.2 C lower than the general average for the same period. While temperatures began to rise gradually after the second half of this February, to record temperatures around their averages and higher, as relatively cold weather prevailed in the highlands and plains, and pleasant temperatures in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.
