Rainfall totals on the first day of the third depression in the fifties of winter

The Director of the Meteorological Department, Mr. Raed Rafid Al-Khattab, stated that the Kingdom was affected, since the early hours of Monday morning 06/02/2023, by a deep depression accompanied by a very cold air mass accompanied by stormy winds interspersed with strong gusts at times that exceeded the 90 km / hour barrier, which led to the occurrence of Dust storms and a decrease in the extent of horizontal visibility and its lack at times, especially in the desert areas, as the northern and central regions of the Kingdom witnessed, during the afternoon hours, showers of rain that were heavy at intervals, especially in the night hours, while the northern, southern and central highlands of the Kingdom witnessed an increase in height 900 meters above sea level, snow falls and accumulates unevenly according to altitude.

Al-Khattab added that the precipitation was concentrated until nine o’clock in the morning on Tuesday corresponding to 07/02/2023 in the northern and central regions of the Kingdom, where the rain totals were adjusted during the past 24 hours of the current rainy season 2022/2023 at good rates that ranged between (01% – 13% of the general rainy season.

Al-Khattab reported that the highest rainfall in the northern regions was in the Irbid monitoring station, with a rainfall total of (55.5) mm, or 12% of its general seasonal average, followed by the Salt monitoring station, with a rainfall total of (55.0) mm, or 10% of its seasonal average. Followed by the Ras Munif monitoring station, with a rainfall total of (46.0), with a rate of 8% of its general seasonal average.

In the capital, Amman, the University of Jordan monitoring station witnessed a rainfall total of (49.0) mm, or 10%, followed by the Hussein Gardens monitoring station, with a rainfall total of (38.5) mm, or 8% of its general seasonal average, while the Amman Civil Airport monitoring station recorded Rainfall total amounted to (33.8) mm, with a rate of 13%.

The thickness of the accumulated snow at the Ras Munif monitoring station reached 4 cm, the University of Jordan monitoring station 4 cm, and the Shoubak monitoring station 2 cm.

Al-Khattab explained that it must be taken into account that the above numbers will increase as we continue to be affected by the depression.

The chart below shows the percentage deviation of the rain totals until the morning of 07/02/2023 from the general rainy average for this time of the rainy season.
