Astronomer Imad Mujahid told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) today, Sunday, that the ancient Arabs used to determine the dates of the seasons, the days of cold and heat, and the seasons of planting and harvesting from the times of sunrise and sunset, and this science was known to them as the science of the signs, which is similar to meteorology in the current era .

Mujahid indicated that the Arabs divided the winter fifties into four periods called the Saud, which are: Saad the slaughterer, Saad the crypts, Saad the Saud, and Saad the swallow, each of which lasts approximately 12.5 days.

The name “Saad” came based on a myth that says that a shepherd named Saad was intending to travel on a sunny day, so his father advised him to supply furs and firewood, but his father did not listen to his advice, thinking that the weather would not change, but in the middle of the road the sky became cloudy, then it rained and snowed abundantly. So, Saad had no choice but to slaughter his camel to take refuge in its entrails from the bitter cold, so it was “Saad the slaughterer,” about whom it was said, due to the severity of his cold, “The dog that barked, the farmer what he succeeded, and his shepherd that he let loose.”

The period of “Saad the Slaughterer” usually begins on the first of February and ends on the 13th of February, followed by “Saad Balaa” and starts on the 13th of February and ends on the 25th of February. February and ends on the 10th of March, during which the “water with oud” takes place, and the sap flows through the trunks and branches of trees.

While “Saad Al-Khabaya” comes on the 10th of March and ends on the 22nd of it, then the snakes and the crypts of the earth emerge from their winter hibernation, announcing the end of the fifties of winter and the start of spring.

The fifty-year-old winter includes 7 days, 4 of which are the last days of February, and the first 3 days of March, and is characterized by extreme cold.
Mujahid said, according to meteorologists, that the spring equinox for this year falls on March 20, and some countries celebrate it in the so-called “Neurouz feast,” and the length of day and night is equal, and the sunrise begins for the first time in the North Pole after a 6-month-long night. And the sunset begins for the first time in the Antarctic after a day of 6 months.
