The Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply and the Minister of Labor, Youssef Al-Shamali, announced that the tripartite committee for labor affairs will meet soon to discuss whether or not to raise the minimum wage.

Al-Shamali said in a press statement, today, Monday, that in his capacity as head of the tripartite work committee, the minimum wage according to the committee’s previous decision is 260 dinars, noting that the committee is the only one that determines the value and time period for raising the minimum wage.

He added that the decision to raise the minimum wage relates to workers in the private sector, not to workers in the public sector, indicating that the repercussions of the Corona pandemic affected the failure to raise the minimum wage during the past two years.

And Al-Shamali indicated that the inflation rate during the first 11 months of last year amounted to 4.22 percent, and he explained that what was issued by the Social Security Corporation relates to a previous decision that has not yet been approved. Due to the repercussions of the Corona pandemic on the local market and the private sector.

And he indicated that the matter will be discussed in the committee meeting, which will be the final decision in determining the minimum wage according to the challenges and opportunities available and the ability to actually implement the decision.
