The far-right “Temple Mount groups” are seeking to exploit the presence of extremist Itamar Ben Gvir in the position of Israeli Minister of National Security to change the status quo in Al-Aqsa Mosque, according to what the “Israel Hayom” newspaper said in its issue issued today, Wednesday.
According to the newspaper, these groups presented Bin Ghafir with demands related to opening all the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque to settlers, even on Jewish holidays and holidays, including the Sabbath, and increasing the number of assailants to Al-Aqsa in the hours after the noon prayer, and extending the storming hours in the evening.
The raids are currently limited to the Mughrabi Gate for a period of 4 hours in the morning and briefly after the noon prayer for an hour, and over a period of five days, from Sunday to Thursday.
The newspaper pointed out that in the first years after the Six-Day War in 1967, the occupation government allowed settlers to storm Al-Aqsa until Saturdays, and it was done through several gates.
These groups also seek permission to storm Al-Aqsa Mosque individually and not only through groups, which requires a change in security procedures.
According to the newspaper, these demands will be put forward by Ben Gvir to the Shin Bet (intelligence service), the police and the relevant security authorities, as well as to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
