The Minister of Public Works and the Minister of Transport, Eng. Maher Abu Al-Samen, said during his meeting with the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmed Al-Hananda yesterday at the Ministry of Transport, and in the presence of the Director General of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority, Tariq Al-Habashneh, that the continuation of the work of unlicensed applications without deterrence will cause distortion that greatly affects the continuity of the sector’s work. In a press release issued by the ministry today, Friday, he indicated that the available official data indicates that the government agreed to license six smart transportation applications that employ about 13,000 Jordanian youth, while the number of unlicensed applications was estimated at about 28 applications, most of which operate their services from outside Jordan, which negatively affects On licensed smart application companies and the yellow taxi, as licensed companies will not be able to fulfill their financial obligations in light of unfair competition from applications without licenses.

Engineer Abu Al-Saman stressed the need to work according to the law and take strict measures to stop tampering with the smart transportation sector, because the violating applications negatively affected the profits of drivers and the licensed companies that are committed to paying fees, taxes, and the instructions of the official authorities.

For his part, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmed Al-Hananda said that encouraging public transport service through smart applications should serve the achievement of three main goals that start with organizing the passenger transport sector, improving the level of service and creating job opportunities, pointing to the importance of benefiting from smart applications in raising the level of workers in sector through training and rehabilitation.

At the end of the meeting, the meeting agreed to conduct a joint study by the Land Transport Regulatory Authority and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Leadership to develop appropriate mechanisms and plans that would control the violating companies, regulate the sector, and develop legislation related to this matter.
