An official source in the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that the Jordanian side allowed the entry of olive oil into the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan through the Karama crossing, starting from 12-07-2022 until the 31st of next month, at the rate of two 16-liter oil tanks for each family and for one time only, and the traveling brothers must abide by this. Agriculture: Jordanians buy oil directly from mills
The media spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Lawrence Majali, said that no cases of adulteration of olive oil have been recorded so far, stressing the press’s commitment to the necessary procedures for pressing to ensure its quality before it reaches the citizens.
Al-Majali told Roya earlier that the ministry is carrying out monitoring and inspection campaigns on olive presses to ensure that they are free of fraud.
He pointed out that the pages promoting the sale of oil are being monitored on social media, noting that no violation has been recorded in this regard.
Al-Majali stressed that Jordanians buy oil directly from the mills to ensure its quality and not to tamper with it, noting that the price of a tin of olive oil ranges between 80 to 85 dinars.
Jordan is the birthplace of olive cultivation
The Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Al-Hanifat, stated earlier that Jordan is considered the cradle of olive cultivation, and one of the natural habitats for its cultivation in the Middle East.
Al-Hanaifat said that about 15 to 20 percent of the olive trees in Jordan are ancient “Roman” perennial trees.
He explained that olive cultivation in Jordan has developed significantly, as the cultivated area reached 570 thousand dunums, while the number of trees reached 11 million trees, equivalent to about 72 percent of the area planted with fruit trees, and 20 percent of the total cultivated area.
