A family of one of the families of the Jordanian governorate of Al-Karak, in the south of the Kingdom, met with a goal and a unity of vision, to establish a special project inside their house, which they called “Beit Al-Jameed Al-Karaki.”

The choice of the name was not accidental, as jameed (solid milk tablets from sheep’s milk) is a Jordanian product that has been associated with the Karak Governorate since ancient times, and it is a basic material for preparing the most famous dish in the country, which is “Mansaf”.

Based on this, 6 brothers (5 females and a male) decided to create a job for themselves from their father’s house in the city of “Al-Marj” in Karak, defying the conditions and the high rates of unemployment.

The six siblings hold university degrees in different majors, but they did not pay any attention to that, rather they considered it a strength for them in the success of their project, and an incentive for others.

They were supported in the success of their project by the intellectual and cultural level of their parents. Their educational backgrounds made this possible for them. The father is retired from the Ministry of Education with the rank of supervisor for physics, and the mother is a teacher.

Amani Al-Bashabasheh (33 years old) studied physics, Ayat (30 years old) and Alaa (28 years old) studied accounting, Areej (23 years old) studied life sciences, Enas (19 years old) studied marketing, while Osama (27 years old) studied tourism and effects.

The Anatolia correspondent visited the project, and was briefed on the reality of the brothers’ work. Five years after its establishment, the place was transformed into a hostel that allows tourists from different countries of the world to live a Jordanian heritage experience, and to learn about and even participate in the “Jameed Karaki” industry.

Desiring not to skip any detail, the siblings’ conversation was intertwined and integrated, expressing in its content the level of harmony and understanding.

The project was launched in 2017, and its idea was initially to introduce Karak visitors to the most famous brand in this governorate, which is Jameed, according to what they told Anadolu Agency.

The brothers started their work in a village called Mohi, before someone suggested that they move to Al-Marj, which is another area. And the location of their father’s house with an additional feature that allows the visitor to see the ancient Karak Castle from the place, and indeed that was done.

They added: “People heard about the project and liked it; Because it tells the heritage and heritage of the people of Karak Governorate, and a symbolism that the city is famous for, which is Al-Jameed, and they began to spontaneously promote the place, and we began to receive groups of tourists from different countries of the world, to develop the idea after that.

They pointed out: “We allowed visitors to watch the stages of jameed making, and to participate in its preparation as well, and all of this is in a place facing Karak Castle, as he enjoys heritage work and watching history in front of him.”

They say: “When they start cooking Mansaf, which is a popular meal known in Jordan, our brother Osama takes them to the castle, and when they return, the food is ready.”

They explained that “the experience began with Jameed, the place developed and turned into a tourist hostel, allowing tourists to sleep in it, and live the experience of the past; It allows sleeping for 10 people.

Among their most prominent visitors, according to what they told Anadolu Agency, is Queen Rania Al-Abdullah, the wife of the Jordanian monarch, in September 2020.

They were also visited by tourists from different countries of the world, specifically from Germany, France, Britain, the United States, Georgia, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the Emirates, and other countries.

The siblings expressed their hope that a basic problem facing them would be resolved, which is the difficulty in providing services, specifically the road network that leads to the place, indicating that they were promised that work would be done on that, and they are still waiting, as they said.

Amani said, “The project provided us with job opportunities from home, and this in itself is an achievement, especially with the lack of available jobs and the high unemployment rate.”

Ayat confirmed that “the name of the place bears a special symbolism for the Karak governorate. Of course, when you ask the visitor what he knows about something special here, his response is Freed.”

As for Alaa, she stressed the importance of the local community in highlighting their project, explaining that “everyone here supports us and sees in us a story of success and determination to achieve excellence. It is not possible to ask any of the people of the region about the place without telling you details about it.”

On the other hand, Areej saw the impressions of tourists as having a great impact on their achievement of widespread fame, stressing that the advantage of the place and its view of the castle “brings them additional and great gains and attractions.

Enas, the younger sister of the owners of the project, stated that she and her siblings are trying to “look for additional factors that help in marketing the place, and take into account any comments made by the visitors.”

However, their brother, Osama, had a different practical opinion, as he explained that the project achieved the same for him, and allowed him a realistic application of his university studies (tourism and antiquities), and enabled him to increase his stock of information, especially since he accompanies tourists to the archaeological sites in the governorate, and takes them back to the hostel, which It was included in the tourist trail in Karak Governorate.

Al-Karak Governorate is located 120 kilometers from the Jordanian capital, Amman, and its name is associated with the largest ancient castles in the region.

The governorate is one of the tracks of the Royal Road in Jordan, which is one of the oldest and most important trade routes in the Middle East.

The road starts from the outskirts of Cairo in Egypt, and extends along the Sinai Peninsula all the way to Aqaba, then begins to turn north towards the Jordanian capital, and then to Damascus and the Euphrates River in Syria.
