Today, Sunday, on the occasion of International Children’s Day, the National Center for Human Rights called for working vigorously to implement the protection provisions included in the Child Rights Law, especially with regard to health insurance for children, protecting them from school dropouts, and setting up mechanisms to implement the provisions of the law.

In a statement, the center confirmed that childhood has received constitutional protection under Article 6 of the Jordanian constitution. Which stipulates that the family is the basis of society, and its foundation is religion, morals, and patriotism. The law preserves its legal entity and strengthens its bonds and values. The law protects motherhood and childhood, takes care of youth, and prevents abuse and exploitation.

In terms of international human rights standards, the Center indicated that the Convention on the Rights of the Child provided integrated and comprehensive protection for the rights of the child.

He pointed out that the celebration of International Children’s Day this year comes after Jordan has taken a pioneering and qualitative step represented by the adoption of the Child Rights Law, calling in this regard to work diligently to implement the provisions of the protection included in the law and to expand the establishment of parks and safe play places for children, and to seek to protect children. From all forms of abuse, by activating prosecution and oversight frameworks, especially with regard to child labour.

The Center called for the need to give disabled children the necessary attention and care, especially with regard to expanding their inclusion in the educational process and in various aspects of social and recreational life and providing the necessary requirements for them to enjoy their rights guaranteed by the Constitution and national legislation on an equal footing.
