A mountain gorilla, with glowing orange eyes, won first prize in the 2022 Benjamin Mkapa Africa Wildlife Photography Competition, taken by US-based Michael Kranz, and the image of the monkey was praised during a gala event. Held at the Nairobi National Museum, in the Kenyan capital.

It is called the annual award, launched by the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) 2021, after the late president of Tanzania, who devoted much of his time to conservation education in Africa, and was a member of the AWF Board of Directors.

The competition consists of 12 categories, including “Art in Nature”, “Conflict and Coexistence”, in addition to the “Grand Prize”. AWF in ensuring the prosperity of wildlife and wild lands in modern Africa, through numerous conservation and community programmes.

However, there are some challenges that the organization has identified in order to achieve this goal. “When people see elephants here, they see that their crops will be destroyed, and they will kill people,” Sibonya said.
