In his statements to Al-Bawsala, a member of the Jordanian Journalists Syndicate Khaled Al-Qudah expressed his deep regret over some of the violations and professional errors committed by journalists and media professionals during their coverage of the collapse of the Al-Weibdeh building, at the same time holding the government responsible for the chaos that the state of the media, especially the official one, has caused. pressures and restrictions imposed on journalists.

Al-Qudah pointed out that the statement issued by the Media Authority in criticizing press abuses “stood in the air,” and said that “the chaos that is occurring in the media today is only the result of the work of official institutions and the government that sponsors the so-called alternative media and tries to present activists as an alternative to journalists, and seeks To provide communication networks as an alternative to deep media institutions, and enable some activists for competitive purposes and unfortunately for the purposes of conflict of interests, or we call it competition between different sectors, and each party sponsors a group of activists.”

Mismanagement of the government has created alternative bodies for the media

He continued his speech by saying: As a result of the state’s mismanagement of the media file by creating alternative bodies and placing leaders that are not in their place, for example, the event is not the prime minister’s going to the site of the collapse of the Al-Weibdeh building, but the event is the collapse itself, and the media institutions focused on direct instructions from the Prime Minister that it be Focusing on the Prime Minister’s visit to the event, neglecting the injuries and neglecting the collapse itself.

The judges stressed that this is what we are drowning in today as a result of successive government policies, unfortunately, that dwarfed the media and media institutions, and tried as much as possible to curb the media through “terrified leaders” affiliated with the government and affiliated with the Minister of Information whose only concern is to polish this person “and only.”

He said: Every problem we encounter today we find media problems, in which media professionals and media institutions are not directly blamed, but rather the lack of political will to represent our media institutions and to have a role in driving public awareness, and have a role in leading public opinion and have a role in holding the corrupt accountable. It has a role in oversight, and it has a role in being one of the deep state institutions.

The judges warned that, as the media, every time we face such incidents, God forbid, media organizations and social networks will make the same mistakes, because the state has informed media organizations that it is because of its sometimes terrified leaders and because of their lack of belief in their role to go and compete with social networks, even over hate speech. , and to compete with it to penetrate the profession to preserve its position.

He pointed out again that all of this is the result of successive government tampering, and I do not exclude the current government, as it is the most government that has directly “hurt” media institutions and the most government that has interfered in content, and most of the government that has interfered with media leaders, has reached that the Prime Minister interferes in his image on the front page.

In his statements to Al-Basala, Al-Qada explained that this absurdity leads to leaving a vacuum, and this vacuum is covered by social networks, and people withdrew from following the media institutions because they have become revolving in the orbit of the executive authority, so they left a vacuum, and the tampering continues and the tampering unfortunately has become systematic, and it has become a national pillar And he has what is called the alternative media. The Prime Minister spoke directly. Now it is the turn of the alternative media.

He said that the state and the government should not replace social media networks with media institutions, nor should they replace activists with journalists, and states cross crises through their deep institutions.

We support activists and social media..but not an alternative

Qudah said: We support social networks as journalists and unionists, but we support them in order to express public opinion in Jordan, for example, to comment on events and not be the source of the news, and the role of activists in this is appreciated and preserved, their right to expression, the concerned institutions, journalists, the union and supporters Freedom of the media has something to do with protecting this role, but we should not go to be a substitute for media institutions and that activists should not be a substitute for journalists.

He warned again that “jumping into the air in the statements of the Media Authority earlier when it started talking about regulating this framework for influencers and content producers, and in return for the government to abandon newspapers and stop their support and abandon the professional path of colleagues in the official media,” will lead us to the chaotic scene that we are witnessing. today.

And he expressed his regret that the government is abandoning the support of the press presence in these events, and despite our great appreciation and respect for the effort made by the civil defense men and the rescue squad, but the presence of press institutions and journalists is no less true than their role on the battlefield.

The judges noted that the presence of the media and their coverage of at least all the efforts made is a popular incubator for the state’s efforts, but at the same time, he added: “But it is not the job of the official media institutions to cover the presence of the prime minister and then forget the tragedy.”

The judges concluded his speech by expressing his deep annoyance that “media organizations mentioned and focused on the presence of the president’s person and forgot that there was a collapse and victims, or they were asked not to mention the victims, and only focus on the visit and his tireless efforts, at a time when his presence at the scene of the accident hindered the rescue efforts.” .

What are media abuses?

The Media Authority had confirmed in a statement issued by it:compassA copy of it, that some media outlets deviated from professionalism during their press coverage of the incident of the collapse of a building in Jabal Al-Weibdeh.

The authority explained that there are some observations and abuses that should be alerted to, despite the media’s best efforts in comprehensive coverage of the event and the accompanying great sadness and passion, noting that the aim of this is to benefit from lessons and lessons and pay attention to more professionalism, especially in taking into account the privacy of the victims. and their families, the category of young children and their rights.
