King Abdullah II said, “Our countries must unite in effective joint action, and the question now is, do we have the vision and determination necessary to accomplish this?”

“The Dead Sea, the Jordan River and the coral reefs in the Gulf of Aqaba, which are all threatened by climate change,” he added at the opening session of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, on Tuesday.

And he indicated that Jordan is working to build strong partnerships for managing and sustaining water resources, and we see more opportunities to work with our partners to preserve World Heritage sites and the Kingdom’s distinctive natural environments.

Food security

The king indicated that food security is another global priority, as hundreds of millions in the world are sleeping hungry, and these numbers are constantly increasing.

He pointed out that “a country cannot prosper if food is not available at an appropriate cost on the table of every family. On a global level, this requires joint measures to ensure easy access to food at an appropriate cost, and to speed up the arrival of basic food commodities to countries in need.

“In our region, we are looking forward to building integrative partnerships that invest in the capabilities and resources of each country to achieve the common interest of all countries of the region.”

The King said: “Jordan is a vital link point for regional partnerships, cooperation and action to address international crises and provide humanitarian relief, and has always been a source of regional stability and a haven for refugees.

He added: “Today, ten years later, we are hosting more than 1.3 million Syrian refugees. And because meeting the needs of these refugees and others is an international responsibility, the host countries look forward to the international community’s commitment to its commitments in this field.”

“As a Muslim leader, let me assure you clearly that we are committed to defending the rights, authentic heritage and historical identity of Christians in our region, especially in Jerusalem,” the king said.
