The head of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Water and Badia, Muhammad Al-Alaqmeh, stressed the need to expedite the completion of alternative roads in the Jordan Valley region, especially the “Hamrat Al-Sahn” road, to reduce the burdens on citizens traveling on this road.
This came while chairing a meeting of the committee held today, Monday, during which the issue of agricultural roads in the Jordan Valley Authority area was discussed, in the presence of the Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Al-Kasabi, and the Secretary General of the Jordan Valley Authority Manar Mahasneh.
Al-Alaqmeh stressed the importance of expediting the implementation of agricultural roads and rehabilitating them in a way that serves the farmers, praising the efforts made by the Ministry of Works through the implementation of the Al-Ardah Road project, which greatly serves the farmers.
He said that some agricultural roads are not suitable for vehicles to drive on, calling for the necessity of rehabilitating, expanding and lighting them, in a way that meets the needs of farmers.
For their part, Representatives Atta Ibdah and Odeh Al-Nawaisha stressed the importance of improving and developing agricultural roads, and the need to put surveillance cameras and traffic signals on those roads, in order to preserve the safety of their visitors.
In turn, Al-Kasabi pointed to the importance of agricultural roads and their rehabilitation in a way that serves everyone, adding that the ministry will work to develop them, in cooperation with the Jordan Valley Authority.
He stressed that the crossbar will not undergo any change orders.
For her part, Mahasneh said that the situation of some agricultural roads belonging to the areas of the Jordan Valley Authority are dilapidated, as a result of the passage of more than 40 years since its establishment, stressing that the roads need immediate maintenance, especially as they serve a large segment of farmers.
She explained that the Jordan Valley Authority’s allocated allocations for road maintenance are not enough, as its value does not exceed 50,000 dinars annually, which constitutes a challenge and an obstacle to the implementation and rehabilitation of those roads.
