Today, Sunday, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, held a workshop on Good Practices for Emergency Management – Biological Threat, with the participation of veterinarians from veterinary services and law enforcement agencies from Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon.
The workshop, sponsored by the Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Khaled Al-Hanaifat, aims to present and present a new approach on the concepts of good emergency management practices, including those that address the risks of biological threats, within the project “Building Resilience Against Agricultural Terrorism and Agricultural Crime Threats to Animal Health.”
“The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the World Organization for Animal Health and INTERPOL are partners in an international project to build sustainable global resilience in the face of animal health emergencies caused by terrorism and agricultural crime,” said the FAO Representative in Jordan, Engineer Nabil Assaf.
“The FAO Emergency Management Center for Animal Health has started holding training programs on Good Practices for Emergency Management, a reference document on key principles that help veterinary services to standardize and improve their ability to prepare and respond quickly and appropriately to animal health emergencies.
This tool is complemented by a module that specifically addresses aspects of monitoring and responding to criminal or terrorist acts that require cooperation between veterinary services and law enforcement.”
For his part, the representative of the OIE Regional Office for the Middle East, Dr. Ghazi Yahya, said, “OIE supports the activities of its members in facing all risks and a multisectoral approach to contingency planning, including animal health emergencies that may arise from crime and even Terrorism”.
