Professor of Islamic Studies, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jarmi, presented, in statements tocompass“His condolences go out to the families of the martyrs in the accident of the collapse of the Al-Weibdeh building, praying to God Almighty to bind their hearts and inspire them patience and solace and to heal the injured and those affected by them and compensate them with good.
Al-Jarmi said: “Congratulations to the martyrs, and congratulations to those who carried out their duties among the security and civil defense men, and congratulations to our people who stood in one stand, and congratulations to the families of those martyrs and injured.
He praised the scene of solidarity, help and assistance that our good people provided to the people of the Al-Weibdeh incident, stressing at the same time the necessity that we need practical initiatives. And all of this is our duty, as God Almighty said: (And We have made each other a trial. Will you be patient? And your Lord is All-Seeing (20) (Surat Al-Furqan).
We believe in destiny, but we hold the defaulters accountable
Al-Jarmi offered gestures of faith to those who survived this calamity, that belief in God Almighty, His angels, His messengers and the Last Day, and not only that, but also belief in destiny, its good and its evil, as “the ultimate in faith.”
And he continued: “It is not from him to believe only in good predestination and not to believe in evil predestination, because God Almighty has decreed with great wisdom and insisted on a “word of great wisdom” what will happen on earth, but what is the ruling, something may appear to us and things may be hidden from us, God Almighty said.
Al-Jarmi added: So everything is predestined and written, but we do not know what has been written for us, so we have no choice but to take the reasons for what we can, and for what we possess, and then if the reasons for life surprise us with what a person hates, then we say to God destiny in that.
And he said: Here the believer stands after the fate that the position of contentment, the position of literature and the position of reassurance stands, as happened in the scene of the killing of that boy (so they divorced until he was gone. This is a terrible scene that a young boy who did not reach a dream was killed, for the minds deny, and Moses denied, and when the matter became clear to him that there was great wisdom (so we wanted their Lord to replace them with something better than him) (Almsgiving 81).
He pointed out that these scenes show us that everything that happens on this earth has great wisdom, little we know and often we are ignorant, it is nothing but submission and contentment.
Al-Jarmi added, however, by saying: But here there is an important matter, if there is a shortcoming, that we go back and hold ourselves accountable, because we must believe in predestination, not apologize for predestination.
He gave an example of that by saying: The lazy student who did not find, did not strive, and failed, does not have the right to say God’s destiny, but we say: You fall short, God decreed failure for you. Apologizing is not permissible, as the poet said: The incapable of opinion wastes his opportunity, if he misses something, he blames fate.
