A package of traffic decisions issued by the Public Security

The Public Security Directorate announced today the work of a package of traffic decisions that were taken within its traffic strategy for the year 2022-2024 aimed at improving the traffic situation, providing the highest levels of road safety, reducing dangerous accidents, and raising awareness among drivers.

The Directorate explained that these decisions were recommended to be taken within the traffic strategy, which was based on field studies and scientific surveys. Its recommendations were discussed by a specialized committee that was formed under the chairmanship of the Assistant Director of Public Security for Operations and Training, and included directors of traffic departments, experts and officers in the Public Security Directorate.

It indicated that based on this strategy, a traffic plan was adopted and started to be implemented to keep pace with developments and meet the future aspirations of the traffic reality. It included a number of decisions, the most prominent of which are:

Vehicle tinting:
The decision came to allow vehicles to be shaded by no more than 50% of the vehicle’s internal visibility, after it was not more than 30%, based on the outcomes of the study prepared for this purpose and its recommendations regarding vehicle shading, identifying the pros and cons, and stating legislation.

As the competent committee recommended this decision, to protect against sunlight and weather conditions, especially in light of the high temperatures in previous years, in addition to increasing the effectiveness of air-conditioning devices, protecting the interior parts of the vehicle from damage caused by sunlight, and mitigating the negative effects when the glass is broken, Provided that this percentage does not exceed 50% in order to maintain the level of visibility at night or during rainy weather.

Activate the traffic points system:
The decisions issued under the traffic plan also included emphasizing the activation of the traffic points system issued under Traffic Law No. 49 of 2008, after the completion of all electronic linking work, on the control and inquiry systems at security centers, points and patrols, in a manner that ensures that traffic points are calculated legally and properly. , in accordance with the provisions of the law.

Points are calculated for the violations contained within the provisions of the system and its articles, according to the gravity and seriousness of the violations, and in a manner that limits reckless driving, the commission of dangerous violations, and negligence and recklessness that lead to accidents that result in human injuries.

According to the system, all points recorded on drivers who repeat dangerous violations will be recorded on an electronic record in which all necessary information is recorded, such as the number of points, the number of times the driving license has been suspended, and its duration, and traffic violations and accidents committed by the driver, pointing out that the traffic points will be installed from the date of Edit the violation in presence.

The Public Security Directorate confirmed that it will not impose any expenses or fines as a result of the application of this system, other than those stipulated in the Traffic Law.

And she indicated that the system allowed the driver to write off 8 points per year, before reaching 16 points, and in order to avoid the driver any procedures to stop the work of the license in the event that he undergoes the training courses referred to.

The system stipulates that the driving license will be suspended for the driver whose number of traffic points registered against him exceeds 16 points in one year, while the points that have been registered for a period of one year will be crossed out, unless their total reaches the limit that necessitates the suspension of the driving license. (16 points)

According to the system, driving licenses will be suspended and confiscated for a period of (60) days if the total number of traffic points in the register reaches (16) traffic points and less than (20) traffic points. Record (20) traffic points and less than (24) traffic points.

The license will also be suspended and confiscated for a period of (120) days if the total number of traffic points in the register reaches (24) traffic points and is less than (28) traffic points. a day.

According to the system, four traffic points will be registered against the driver if he commits any of the following violations:
• Driving the vehicle in the opposite direction on the roads separated by a central island.
• Bypassing the red light.
• Driving the vehicle at a speed exceeding the prescribed limit by more than (50) km.
• Driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or any of the psychotropic substances, which causes the driver to lose control of its driving.

Three points will be scored against the driver if he commits the following violations:
• Driving a vehicle recklessly on the road.
• The vehicle’s wrongful overtaking in cases and places where overtaking is prohibited.
• Driving the vehicle in the opposite direction of traffic or violating the prohibited traffic signs.

Two points are scored for driving a motorbike without wearing a helmet for the driver and passenger, and for driving a freight vehicle whose total weight exceeds the prescribed limit, and one point for a double parking violation on city roads.

The directorate also indicated that the driver whose license is actually withheld after suspension of work is granted a temporary driving permit for a period of 24 hours from the date of reservation to secure his vehicle, then the driving licenses are re-operated and handed over to their owners after the specified period expires, and the traffic points registered against the driver are written off.

Strengthening the supervision of the roads:
The traffic plan included a special axis that enhances the procedures for reducing dangerous violations and maintaining the safety of road users, through expanding road monitoring, increasing the number of traffic investigations, and patrols equipped with electronic and automated monitoring systems.

This axis includes raising the coverage rate of the Operations and Control Directorate through modern control systems, cooperation and coordination with all competent authorities, the most important of which are the Ministry of Local Administration, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, and the Greater Amman Municipality, with the aim of increasing oversight and taking road safety measures, in addition to achieving the highest standards. Integration between all field units in the regions and the competent departments of the Public Security Directorate.

The traffic plan includes a media axis for awareness and guidance aimed at raising awareness, promoting a better traffic culture, strengthening channels of communication with the media and citizens and involving them in the process of improving the traffic situation, in addition to continuing to conduct traffic studies periodically, to analyze the traffic reality and review all measures taken and evaluate their impact.

The Public Security Directorate stresses that this plan comes within its constant endeavor and its approach to continuous development and improvement in order to raise the level of traffic safety and stop the bleeding on the roads. It calls upon all citizens to support it and cooperate to achieve these goals, and take the initiative in promoting a culture of commitment, and rejecting practices. Mistakes and violations that threaten lives and property, leading to a safe traffic environment for all.
