The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority revealed that the mobile phone service penetration rate for the population reached 65.52% in the first quarter of this year.

The statistical scene announced by the authority in this regard showed that the total number of mobile phone subscriptions in that period amounted to about 7.30 million, of which mobile phone subscriptions with the prepaid system accounted for the largest share, with 5.41 million subscriptions, compared to 1.89 million subscriptions with the postpaid system.

As for the percentage of mobile subscriptions to the population in 2021, the same statistics showed that this penetration rate formed during the quarter periods of that year a discrepancy, reaching 64.12% in the first quarter, becoming 64.17% in the second quarter, while it increased in the third quarter to 66.20 % to decline in the last quarter of that year, recording 65.76%.

It is noteworthy that one of the tasks entrusted to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority is to lay the foundations for regulating the telecommunications and information technology sectors. It also falls within the context of the authority’s tasks to set and approve the conditions and criteria for granting licenses for telecommunication networks and services.
