Are the thoughts and thoughts of obsessive-compulsive disorder responsible for the person, or are they the result of an illness? I have been suffering from compulsive obsessive-compulsive disorder for years and I keep up my five daily prayers.
We transferred the problem to Dr. Ali al-Qatt, a psychiatrist, who said: “Obsessive-compulsive disorder and its obsessive thoughts or compulsive actions, as well as the way of thinking that a person is responsible for the disturbance he feels, increases the problem and harms him, and here the patient needs psychological treatment sessions. Because these thoughts with most cases, especially those related to religious obsessions, come with a feeling of guilt and self-blame and accountability, which pushes the patient to go to religious institutions and consult religious men, until he finds an answer that he is not responsible for his thoughts and feels comfortable, and these cases always suffer and the solution is not only treatment Medication with its great importance and role, but psychotherapy sessions for obsessive cases play an important role in this case.
He continued: “The causes of obsessive-compulsive disorder are many, including biological, such as a defect in the chemicals serotonin and norepinephrine, and a defect in some areas of the brain. Some research has indicated that genes play a role in this, in addition to psychological, social, and family factors that may help in the occurrence of obsessiveness.”
He added: “There are many types of obsessiveness, such as that accompanied by an act such as hygiene obsessive when a person repeats bathing or washing hands more than once a day, or obsessive counting when a person counts some Western things such as stairs and lampposts, and there is intellectual obsessiveness where some thoughts come to the person. Strange and different in gender or religion, and cause a person a kind of discomfort and lack of confidence in his religion, so some beliefs of infidelity or atheism and some obsessions come in the form of strange and sometimes perverted sexual thoughts, and here it is important for the patient to follow up with a doctor who advises him to take some medicines that help In regulating chemicals such as serotonin with psychological treatment, especially cognitive-behavioral therapy, and both treatments together are better, in addition to the role of the family in understanding and supporting such cases.
