Amman – Raed Sobeih
Educational and partisan elites warned in statements to “compass“The danger of compromising the high school exam (Tawjihi), or seeking to weaken it or cancel it, stressing the need to develop a “comprehensive plan” to address the errors and problems that have affected the exam, which seriously affected its reputation and results, away from individual judgments and shortcoming solutions, and the real involvement of educators, experts, specialists and teachers to develop the exam.
She stressed the need for all specialized educational expertise to converge to reconsider the entire educational process, stressing at the same time the need to preserve the Tawjihi exam as one of the most important indicators of the outcomes of the educational system in Jordan, which has a local and regional reputation in terms of preparation, organization and management in all its stages.
Scheme to destroy the guideline
Fakher Daas, the educational expert and coordinator of the campaign to defend the rights of students (Zhabtouna), warned in his statements to Al-Bawsala of the existence of a “plan to destroy the Tawjihi,” stressing that the Ministry of Education worked on this through systematic steps during the past years.
Daas said: The next stage is dangerous, in which he plans to destroy the Tawjihi exam, in addition to a plan to raise university fees by rates that may reach 400%, accompanied by a real trend to privatize universities, starting with canceling the Tawjihi and not considering it as the only criterion for university admission.
He pointed out that this scheme was approved in 2015 and began to be implemented in 2017 during the era of Dr. Omar Razzaz when he was Minister of Education and was dedicated in 2019 by accrediting a single session, and now we are witnessing talk about the adoption of the preparatory year, whether in medical colleges, engineering colleges, or others. .
Daas pointed out that the percentage of students who obtained an average of 90% or above rose to the total of those entitled to apply for unified admission (students with an average of 65% and above) from 12.7% in 2016 to 28.1% in 2017.
He added, “Imagine that in one year we jumped 16 percentage points, with a growth rate of 120%,” noting that “only one year will be enough to achieve this historic jump in rates.”
Daas stressed that it is not possible for our students to achieve this leap in the educational process in one year, expressing his regret that “the issue is a political orientation away from the quality of education.”
He stressed that the year 2017 was the turning point towards destroying the Tawjihi, explaining that at that time the approach of high rates and abnormal success rates began, then the start of a successful college and university accreditation, and then the start of accrediting the average of 1400 marks, and the start of accrediting fields (that are neither color nor It has no taste and no smell), and the start of canceling the obligation to accredit physics for scientific, and the Arabic language is devoted to literary in average, and so on.
A call to reconsider the Tawjihi within a comprehensive and integrated plan
For his part, the educational expert, Faraj Tamizi, confirmed in his statements to “compass“The problem is not in the Tawjihi alone, but in the educational process as a whole, especially since it has become a field of experiments with its positive and negative results.
However, Tamimi added, “However, this indicates that the vision of the Ministry of Education to reconsider the high school exam, lacks a comprehensive and integrated plan to develop the educational process.”
“From this standpoint, I say that it is time for the educational experiences in the country to converge in order to study the deteriorating situation that the educational process has reached, whether it is in the Tawjihi or otherwise,” as he put it.
He pointed out that the high school exam receives all this attention; Because it is a detailed and a main gateway to public life and university life for students.
The educational expert continued his speech by saying: From this standpoint, we must work to reconsider now the Tawjihi within a comprehensive integrated plan, but that the matter is subject to a discretionary process and there are no clear courses in it, this constitutes a very serious danger.
Tomezi wondered: “Who will take the decision to reconsider the issue of high school, are they the educational experts in the field, are they the teachers, are they the administrators, or is there a group behind the offices of the Ministry of Education that approves, plans and coordinates as it wants.”
He expressed his regret that the Ministry of Education is floundering in its jurisprudence on the subject of the Tawjihi. Sometimes it bears responsibility for questions, whether they are objective or not, and once it bears them for the factor of time, and so on, but in the end “all of them led to negative results.”
Tomezi concluded his speech with:compassHe said: “It is high time that the efforts of experts in the educational process converge and study the issue, just as it is done in the means of modernization in educational institutions in countries of the world.”
Claims to develop a statistical analysis of the results of the guideline
For its part, the Education Committee of the Islamic Action Front Party demanded, in a statement issued by it, a copy of which was received by Al-Bawsala, that the statistical analysis of high school results should be expanded and developed to include many aspects, in order to identify the strengths and weaknesses about the quality of the educational inputs and processes provided to students in High school in particular and at all educational levels in general.
The committee confirmed that it considers the high school exam as one of the most important indicators of the outcomes of the educational system in Jordan, which has a local and regional reputation in terms of preparation, organization and management in all its stages, which requires that the evaluation process be continuous for the outcomes to identify strengths and weaknesses about the quality of educational inputs and processes. Provided to students in high school in particular and at all educational levels in general.
And she demanded a study of the success and failure rates according to the governorate and the kasbah, and its cumulative study compared to previous years, in order to show the level of justice in providing educational service and to monitor the recurring weaknesses in it.
She stressed that the results of the high school diploma reflect the weak interest of the Ministry in vocational education and its expansion, and this is evident in many aspects, such as the low numbers of people enrolled in the professional track and the modest results achieved in general.
The Ministry of Education also called for conducting more studies and procedural research on areas related to curricula, students, teachers, or the educational environment in all its aspects, through the educational supervisors sector; They have the capabilities and qualifications necessary for this, and they are the most capable of being close to the educational field, within the controls and rewards allocated for these purposes.
She stressed that we need to conduct further study and analysis of the results of the general secondary school certificate by those interested, educational specialists, research institutions and all concerned disciplines to support the efforts of the Ministry in improving the education process and the continuation of the follow-up and evaluation process for the results of this national exam, asking God for payment, guidance and elevation. For our country Jordan and for our Arab and Islamic nation.
Earlier this month, Minister of Education and Higher Education Wajih Owais revealed a study to reconsider the “Tawjihi” high school exam, stressing that there is a tendency to form a specialized committee to develop the exam.
