The Compass – Spokesman for the Ministry of Water, Omar Salama, said that the repeated attacks on water lines, especially the main ones, cause water disruptions and cuts in many areas.

In radio statements, on Hayat FM radio, he added that the attacks affect the quotas of individuals in light of the critical water situation that Jordan suffers from.

Salameh described the numbers of attacks on water lines as “horrific and dangerous,” noting that more than 1,800 attacks were recorded during the past two months, and 70,000 in recent years.

He pointed out that the attacks on water lines continue despite the amendment of the law and the toughening of penalties for the aggressors.

Salameh explained that the penalties are not up to the level that the aggressor benefits from, calling for tougher penalties on water sources.

He pointed out that these attacks affect the networks and cost the ministry huge money to repair them.
