Jordan ranked first in the Arab world in the percentage of installed capacity of renewable energy sources, and ranked third in the amount of energy produced.

According to the ministry, Jordan ranked after the energy generated from the total installed capacity of renewable energy projects reached about 5.5 terawatt-hours at the end of 2021 in the ratio of the installed capacity of renewable energy sources without calculating hydropower, and third after Egypt and Morocco in the amount of energy produced.

The capacity was distributed by 1,498 megawatts from commercial projects under power purchase agreements, representing 59 percent of the total installed capacity, and 1,027 megawatts from renewable energy systems projects owned by subscribers to cover their consumption using net metering meters and transit transport, which represents about 41 percent of the total installed capacity.

According to a previous statement by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, the total installed capacity of electric power generation projects from renewable energy sources amounted to about 2526 megawatts at the end of last July, which contributed to 29 percent of the electrical energy generated since the beginning of 2022 compared to about 26 percent during 2021.

It is noteworthy that the ministry’s strategy aims to diversify energy sources and its forms by expanding the exploitation of renewable energy sources, expanding the exploitation of oil shale to produce oil and generating electricity, and developing exploratory areas for oil and gas exploration, both conventional and unconventional. The number of wind energy companies is seven companies and 22 energy companies an umbrella.

The Ministry’s report for the year 2021 indicates that the total installed capacity of electric power generation projects from renewable energy sources amounted to about 2445.7 MW, including: 1498.1 MW from projects from which the electric energy generated is sold to electricity companies, and 947.6 MW from renewable energy system projects Owned by subscribers to cover their consumption using net metering and transit meters.

The report indicates that the projects for generating electric power using renewable energy during the past year are: Abour Wind Energy Company project in Tafileh 51.75 MW, Dehan Wind Energy Company project 51.75 MW, and Philadelphia Company project in Husseiniya 50 MW about preparing the installed systems according to the transit systems The net measurement amounted to about 52 thousand systems.
