The Director General of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority, Tariq Habashneh, confirmed that the number of licensed smart transport applications is 7 companies.

Speaking to Jordan TV, today, Wednesday, Habashneh indicated that the Council of Ministers has set the number of vehicles operating in the sector at 13,000.

He said that the inspection committees from the authority are coordinating with the Traffic Department in the Public Security Directorate to follow up on the transport application companies and the extent of their commitment, stressing the keenness to provide an exemplary service.

“If any complaint or note is registered, the company will take action against the service provider,” according to Habashneh.

The decision to raise the operational life of vehicles operating through intelligent transportation applications to 7 years entered into force as of yesterday, Tuesday.

He justified the decision as it came after the circumstances and difficulties experienced by Jordan and drivers alike during the last period.

He pointed to the drivers’ demands to raise the operational work from 5 years to more, due to the financial obligations incurred by most of them with banks for periods of more than 5 years.

The Authority’s Board of Directors took its decision to raise the operational work of application vehicles, as recommendations and justifications were submitted to the Council of Ministers, which also approved it.

And he indicated that the authority has worked during the past and current years with all modes of transportation, and due to pandemic conditions, the operating lives of public transport vehicles have been extended by giving them an opportunity to arrange their affairs.

He added that the operational life of yellow taxi vehicles is up to 12 years, and we have demands to increase their operational life.

He pointed out that the authority promised to introduce electric vehicles and “hatchbacks” to work as a yellow taxi to reduce operational costs, promising that the yellow taxi will also be helped.
