In the beginning, the Kaaba was washed twice a year, once on the 15th of Sha’ban, and a second time in the month of Muharram. After that, the Saudi monarch ordered that the Holy Kaaba be washed once and set an appointment for it on the 15th of Muharram.

– The date of washing the Kaaba is predetermined by royal order, and the person doing the washing is also determined on behalf of the king if he is not the one doing it.

The ceremonies begin with the circumambulation of the participants in washing the Kaaba, about seven circuits, and receiving the blessed Black Stone, then performing the two rak’ahs of the circumambulation.

– The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques or the Crown Prince washes the Kaaba, and the one who is washing the Kaaba has to perform two rak’ahs on a marble slab on which the Prophet of God, Muhammad, prayed.

The process of washing the Kaaba is done with Zamzam water mixed with the Taif rose perfume and placed in silver pots.

– Wooden spaces, pieces of cloth, napkins and brooms of palm fronds are brought for washing, and the washing process brings a number of guests who participate as members of the Islamic diplomatic corps, and citizens of the House of God.

The Kaaba is washed with about 45 liters of blessed Zamzam water, and 50 tola of roses and Cambodian oud, using a cloth moistened with Zamzam water and rose oil, to wipe the Kaaba wall and the ground, and the ceremonies last about an hour to an hour and a half at most.
