On Thursday, the Greater Amman Municipality launched the trial operation of the second track of the first phase of the fast-frequency bus project, and the start of work at Tariq Station.

The secretariat said that Tariq Station is a “transportation service edifice and a masterpiece with a distinctive architectural view,” as Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh sponsored the inauguration of the station.

During the inauguration of Tariq Bus Station / Route Two, Al-Khasawneh stressed the importance of the project in finding solutions to traffic problems and strengthening the public transport system.

Al-Khasawneh inspected the facilities of the Tariq station.

He praised the efforts of the Greater Amman Municipality and all its cadres in the completion of the project, and its tireless work to improve the reality of public transportation in the capital, Amman.

By launching the trial run of the second track, the Amman Municipality has completed the first phase of the fast-frequency bus for the two tracks, with a length of 27.5 km and a total cost of (127.4) million dinars, including the construction of intersections and stations along the two tracks.

The second route includes 22 stations for loading and unloading passengers, four of which are main: the Sweileh launch center, the Sports City, the Tariq passenger station, the station passenger station, and the construction and preparation of model berths along the express bus route.

The trial run of the second track ends with a temporary stop at the anchorage bridge until the completion of the construction of the permanent station and the start of official operation and linking with the Amman-Zarqa track so that the end of the track becomes the station for the passengers of the station.

The second lane includes two tunnels, the upper tunnel connects the capital Amman with the Zarqa governorate, and allows cars to pass in both directions smoothly, while the lower tunnel connects the Tariq and Basman areas inside the capital, facilitating the movement of citizens in the Tabarbour area to reach Istiklal Street and vice versa without delay.

The length of the high-frequency bus route on Al-Shaheed Street is (1.3) km, and it includes road works, sidewalks, lighting and a rainwater drainage network, in addition to the works of a passenger loading and unloading station and all related architectural, electrical and mechanical works.

According to the Amman Municipality, the total value of works for the Tariq Intersection tunnel project (lower and upper) and the station, including the spare items, amounted to 26 million dinars.

The Amman Municipality says that the high-frequency bus project is “a rapid transit system for the city of Amman, a flexible and integrated public transport system that provides fast, safe and highly reliable service, based on large-capacity buses running on dedicated lanes and providing a high level of services, and running at frequencies up to 3 minutes, and the system also includes integrated modern stations.”

The Amman Municipality announced that the design of the express bus system for the city of Amman “is not done in isolation,” and said that it “constitutes part of an integrated and hierarchical public transport network,” in light of the need for citizens who want to go from their home to their workplace for more than one mode of transport.

In addition to “designing the express bus system, a wide network of feeding media is being prepared, which will be in the form of regular buses or smaller vehicles, and the aim of this network is to deliver passengers to the nearest express bus station in the fastest time to reduce the waiting period and provide a smooth and comfortable service.”
