The Islamic Action Front party denounced the government’s decision to raise fuel prices for the fifth time in a row, to reach the highest price ever in Jordan’s history compared to previous years, despite the drop in global oil prices to their lowest levels in nearly 6 months.

In a statement issued today, the party deplored the government’s insistence on raising fuel prices without justification and the continued imposition of a tax that exceeds 100% on some types of oil derivatives, so that fuel prices in Jordan would be the highest in the region and among the highest in the world compared to the level of citizen’s income. Which exacerbates the size of the living burdens on citizens and negatively affects the economic reality with the continued rise in the prices of services and commodities, especially basic ones, in light of the government’s abandonment of its responsibilities towards controlling these prices.

The party renewed its question about the reasons for the continued absence of transparency in the file of importing oil and pricing fuels, calling on the government to search for alternatives other than the approach to raising prices, resorting to easing the flat tax imposed on fuels, and building a national vision to address the energy file in Jordan. Distortions and imbalances that are paid by the homeland and the citizen, and changing the existing economic approach that has only brought the homeland more indebtedness and high rates of poverty and unemployment.
