Recently, we are witnessing shocking forms of violence and crimes threatening the family structure
The family is no longer the last wall to protect society from crimes, although we hope so
Crime is a reflection of faulty or unbalanced structures in the families from which the perpetrators came
The crimes we are witnessing are outward symptoms of a problem that has escalated in its economic and value core
We must invest in the media and spread awareness in a scientific way to reduce crime in society
Amman – Raed Sobeih
During the past weeks, Jordanian society has witnessed a noticeable increase in “traumatic crimes,” especially since a large number of them fell within the limits of one small family whose ties are supposed to be the strongest, most affectionate and merciful. Among them is at the table of the large Jordanian family and what is known for its cohesion, love and tolerance, a role that has begun to decline and subside today, and the urgent need for “a pound of treatment.”
“compassIn her deep dialogue with the expert in criminology andProfessor of Sociology at Mutah University, Dr. Hussein Mahadin She focused on the most important causes leading to such crimes, the tremendous changes and the great challenges that the Jordanian family is now facing, with its tendency towards “individualism and an inflated ego” at the expense of “society, its stability and its strong ties,” and the abandonment of many institutions from their responsibilities, especially the government and the public sector, which are a mainstay to the Jordanian society and contribute to raising individuals in strong families that form a cohesive and strong society in the face of the spread of crimes.
The beginning of the story and the family
Dr. Hussein Mahadin, in his careful reading of this issue, believes that, in principle, we must say that the family begins to be established before it is written in the marriage contract. Later, unequal relationships based on authoritarianism or lack of cooperation in one way or another.
Mahadin points out that the reason for this tribal influence (i.e., before the actual beginning of the issue of marriage) is that both spouses descended from an environment parallel to the other in general, each carrying his own childhood experiences, and their own experiences.
He continues, and therefore when they meet under the umbrella of marriage, these previous experiences begin to appear in the form of life behaviors and practices. Either the experience of each of them is based on compatibility and is based on flexibility and adaptability, or these “painful tribal” experiences are based and based on “alienation,” i.e. The dominant ego.
Mahadin says: We start by reading the family not from the moment of its emergence, but from the precursors to its occurrence. Here, the importance and credibility of the nature of the relationship between spouses in terms of kinship, solidarity, cooperation and support, and in terms of the depth and level of “dwelling between them.”
However, he adds: Therefore, we practically treat issues of violence in a superficial or “hasty” manner, when we approach them from the boundaries of the upbringing of the family itself, and he adds: Now each of the spouses came from an environment, and social relations in our “relatively supportive” society affect such relationships.
Challenges facing the Jordanian family
Mahadin notes that the challenges facing the family in Jordan have become “structural” challenges, that is, based on the reasons for construction and the accuracy of the construction itself. Why? Because we are Recently, we have begun to witness shocking forms of violence and crimeand most importantly, they are all forms of threat to the family structure itself, both on the internal level, based on what I said in terms of the accuracy, possibility and level of the emergence of this family between the spouses when they were only two, and the external factors that affected the family.
He adds: These include the effects of globalization and the manifestations of family disintegration itself, the high rates of unemployment, poverty and destitution, and most importantly the inability of family members (unfortunately) to bear each other within the family’s internal sphere, in terms of division of labor, respect for the elder, cooperation, and respect for the female.
Mahadin wonders, “What about when it comes to a society whose institutions have become questionable in terms of roles and the ability to direct individuals?”
He concludes by saying: That is why we have witnessed and unfortunately are witnessing different forms of violence, which are a reflection of wrong or unbalanced structures in the families from which these actors descended, and it is also important that these institutions that formed the pillars of society, starting with the family, passing through the school and university, are all reference institutions that contribute to the upbringing of individuals , has been retreating from its roles in favor of new factors, including technology.
He adds: And how does technology, through communication tools, contribute to influencing the patterns of upbringing and the declining system of religious values, and about the moral density that has become questionable as a result of our observation of broad behaviors in violation of it, in addition to all that The family, by its nature, in light of the scientific data and indicators in Jordanian society, no longer constitutes the last wall, although we hope so..
And he goes to prove what he said by saying: With evidence that the first two years of marriage, as scientific statistics indicate, have the largest percentage of divorce, in addition to the fact that there is a delay in the age of marriage, and the emergence of institutions and intermediary relationships that weakened the “biological role of the family” or “residence” in the family through The irrational uses of social media, most of which have become a threat to family life and often spoil the marital relations that are supposed to be more stable than they are, especially in light of a clear rise in individual values, according to the Western model (absolute individual freedom) and the decline of (group values) as the institution of the clan And family or regional relations, have weakened in terms of impact on individual freedom.
Individuals are nuclei drifting
Mahadin warns that each of us has today become a “loose nucleus” according to his whims and desires, regardless of his position, family name, or geographical area to which he was affiliated, on the one hand, and on the other hand, due to the weakness of economic, social and moral solidarity in society, unfortunately. Individuals are volatile egos who are only governed by their attraction to interest, number, and a swollen self.
He says: It suffices to point out that, unfortunately, some are keen to photograph a traffic accident in order to take it first or to publish it on some media, provided that they provide rescue and assistance services to people who are exposed or have an accident here or there, and we no longer concern that this or that beggar carries The family name is real or fake.
He expresses his deep regret, especially since society and its members have become more interested only in the culture of the number in its two heads, (the dominant material aspect and its companions, trade and utility), and the second head (the culture of the number that helps us manage technology and its tools in a way that deepens the centrality of the body and the pleasure or sense that is in our bodies The uses of technology for individual purposes, including trade, and access to images, scenes and films that are not from our reality, but are tempting to us, because we live in multiple forms of duality in our personalities.
value economic crisis
Mahadin explains: We also became more clear about this issue in the 1990s, as a result of the accelerated privatization that broke off all these ties, which, although their appearance is moral, social and value-oriented, but their roots and content are “internal” and their threatening roots are (economic roots).
And he stresses that what we are witnessing these days of economic conditions pressing on ordinary citizens, especially the poor, is a reflection of governments (the public sector) abandoning, as part of privatization, the traditional, pastoral roles that they used to play and reduce poverty rates or economic inequality. and class in Jordan.
He points out that our Jordanian society, which is labeled as “young”, but these young people are unemployed and in large percentages from work and participation, and the rates of participation in elections, for example, starting with schools and student unions in universities, and not ending in municipalities and parliaments but an indication that these young people They excluded or excluded themselves because of the tension and yearning in which they live, due to their bias towards production, work, and independent financial disclosure away from their families who also suffer from the strength of these pressures.
Mahadin stresses that in terms of scientific accuracy, we say that what we are witnessing is apparent symptoms of the problem, which are rampant in its economic and value essence, and therefore the ways of expressing it differ between a frustrated person, another expatriate, and a third yearning to express that he is suffering.
He continues his speech by saying: When these different forms meet in a developing society, and regional and economic pressures are pressing on it, we find that such practices may occur, and in new forms, why? Because the people who want to remind themselves, whether fatally through suicide, or through screaming, or through the models presented by some in violence, “All of these are indications that we have an internal crisis that needs a scientific pause.”
Rationalizing the role of the awareness media
Mahadin believes in his statements tocompass“The media is just a carrier of what is happening, and sometimes we feel that the Jordanian citizen does not want to confront himself through the media mirror, and we are talking about the disciplined media that transmits the image for the purposes of awareness and guidance, and so on, and is met with resentment from public opinion, that this does not happen to us, and we are a conservative society. It is not accurate to transmit such images lest they be imitated.
And he adds, we are practically the role of the media, and in every sense of the word, it is a revealing role that conveys facts, and we have to deal and benefit from the presence of the fourth authority in our lives, because it is one of the tools for unloading the shipments of tension engulfed within the popular conscience, and the individual ego, and therefore I think that there is an important need to invest in Media and awareness raising in a scientific manner.
He concludes his speech by noting and saying: However, perhaps the inflation in the role of the media and its impact on the recipient is the weakness of the official government media through successive governments, and the absence of a reliable source for the recipient. The supposed situation with both eyes and in both images, the owner of the event or the event itself, and the official, scientific and political comment on the rapid changes and events that our society is experiencing.
