31.7 percent increase in the Kingdom’s trade deficit in 5 months

The Kingdom’s trade deficit increased during the first five months of this year, by 31.7 percent, to reach 4.150 billion dinars, compared to the same period last year, which amounted to 3.150 billion dinars.
The monthly report of the Department of General Statistics on foreign trade in Jordan indicated today, Monday, that the value of total exports in the first five months of this year increased by 41.2 percent, to reach 3.362 billion dinars, compared to the same period last year, which amounted to 2.381 billion dinars.
The value of national exports also increased during the same period this year, by 43.4 percent, or an amount of 3.073 billion dinars, compared to the same period last year, which amounted to 2.143 billion dinars. According to the report, the value of re-exports amounted to about 289 million dinars until the end of May of this year, an increase of 21.2 percent, compared to the same period last year, which amounted to about 237 million dinars.
As for imports, they rose during the first five months of this year, by 35.8 percent, amounting to 7.513 billion dinars, compared to 5.532 billion dinars in the same period last year.
The report indicated that the coverage ratio of total exports to imports amounted to 43.1 percent in the first five months of this year, while the coverage rate reached 44.8 percent, an increase of 1.7 percentage points.
On the monthly level, the value of the Kingdom’s national exports amounted to 589.8 million dinars during the month of May of this year, compared to 511.7 million dinars during the same month last year, which indicates an increase of 15.3 percent.
