Today, Tuesday, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation confirmed that it is working in cooperation with international donors and experts to expedite the exploration of water basins and the extraction of deep water.
The ministry said in a press statement today, that it has started drilling deep wells in the Hisban region, and completed the first two wells with a capacity of about 300 cubic meters per hour, despite challenges that led to a decline in the productivity of a large number of wells and resources in various regions of the Kingdom.

She added that it is making all possible efforts to meet the water needs for domestic, agricultural and service uses in all regions of the Kingdom, in light of the growing climatic challenges during the past two seasons, and the decline in rainfall, and its impact on the reality of available water.

The ministry indicated that it has a number of short, medium and long-term executive plans and programs to meet the required needs according to timetables aimed at finding solutions to water challenges, especially in light of the water conditions that are increasing in severity year after year, stressing that the health conditions the world has witnessed during the past two years. And the accompanying repercussions of the Corona pandemic, directly affected the completion of a number of projects in the water sector.

It indicated that it currently has a number of projects aimed at raising the level of service provided to the citizen, whether in improving water networks and reducing water losses within the Ministry’s strategic plan aimed at increasing the number of areas served by water networks and sanitation services to increase the number of served, and its reflection on the provision of a sustainable water source. Of the treated water generated by sewage plants, which amounted to about 200 million cubic meters annually.

The ministry indicated that it has completed its procedures to raise the quality of the treated water specifications in it, to be compatible with various crops, especially since more than 93 percent of the quantities of treated water in these stations are utilized as a sustainable water source in different crops and for industrial purposes in some areas, and the same quantities used for the purposes of providing drinking.

She said that she had started implementing water and sanitation projects to raise the level of services provided at a value of about 700 million dollars for sanitation, and 100 million dollars to change water networks and tanks, and to complete projects to improve networks and reduce losses worth about 350 million dollars, in addition to her relentless efforts to follow up on the national carrier project, and to complete all Procedures by which bids are expected to be received from the five eligible consortiums by the end of the current year.

The ministry stressed that its campaign to tighten control over water sources and stop attacks, in cooperation with all official authorities, is continuing with firmness and achieving positive results day after day, and the provisions of the law are being applied against all violators.

It indicated that the total number of wells that were filled since the beginning of the campaign amounted to 1,284 violating wells, 92 violating drilling rigs were seized, 70,927 attacks on water lines were detected, 2572 attacks on treasury lands were removed, and 27,200 attacks on King Abdullah Canal were detected.

She indicated that 372 attacks on the Disi water line were seized from the beginning of this year until the end of last May, and 593 cases were registered with courts in various regions.

The Ministry reaffirmed that the water rights of the homeland and the citizen are protected, and it is a red line that no one can ignore or fail to guarantee and obtain, and that it is following up the implementation and implementation of all water agreements with neighboring countries in a way that guarantees Jordanian water rights and takes into account the conditions of climate changes that the world and the region are witnessing and its impact on Water resources declined in a number of neighboring and sisterly countries.
