A new study shows that high blood pressure doubles the risk of hospitalization associated with an omicron variant infection, even in vaccinated people who receive booster doses.
The study was conducted at the Smidt Heart Institute in New York, and said that this viral variant spreads infection usually mild symptoms, but its risk to patients with high blood pressure should not be underestimated.

According to the findings, published in the journal Hypertension, infection prevention is critical for high blood pressure patients.

The study relied on Cedar-Sinai Hospital records during the period between December 1, 2021 and April 20, 2022.
The study found that chronic high blood pressure cases are associated with worse outcomes with regard to infection with the omicron variant, which is the predominant mutation of the Corona virus so far.

The study called on people with high blood pressure to discuss antiviral treatment with their doctors in the event of infection with the Omicron variant.
