Cabinet decisions about the Medical Council and foreign companies in Aqaba and carton export

The Cabinet approved, in its session held today, Sunday, headed by Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Al-Khasawneh, the draft law of the Jordanian Medical Council for the year 2022 AD, in preparation for referring it to the Parliament to complete the constitutional procedures for approval.

The new draft law aims to follow up on new scientific developments that require the need to reconsider the functions and powers of the Jordanian Medical Council, and the work of the committees formed in it. To enable it to achieve its goals and maintain the Kingdom’s distinguished medical level.

The draft law also aims to enable the Jordanian Medical Council to keep pace with developments in the programs of excellence, specialization and fellowship, and to approve and expand recognition of new medical specialties that were not previously approved, and to restructure these programs.

The draft law included the inclusion of the clinical pharmacy specialist and the doctor of pharmacy under the umbrella of the Jordanian Medical Council. It also included a mechanism for developing the council’s examinations by allocating examinations for each medical specialty, and seeking the assistance of institutions specialized in the field of examinations in qualitative ways.

The draft law specifies the categories eligible for exemption from evaluating certificates and taking the stipulated exams, within specific controls, terms and conditions.

The Cabinet also approved the reasons forA draft law amending the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Law for the year 2022M, and referred it to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau for discussion and the proper procedures for its approval.

The reasons for the draft law included not allowing foreign companies to register with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority until after registering with the companies’ control, and ensuring that the authority’s tax system complied with the standards of the tax code of conduct of the European Union and the Economic and Cooperation Organization.

The amendments also aim to remove any additional requirements for Jordanian companies and establishments or any difference in tax treatment between Jordanian and non-Jordanian companies.

The Council also agreed to extend the work of the Tax Settlement and Reconciliation Committee, formed under the provisions of Article (3) of the basis for settling outstanding issues between taxpayers and the Income and Sales Tax Department for the year 2019 AD until the end of the current year 2022 AD.

The decision comes with the aim of contributing to enabling companies, establishments and taxpayers to pay their tax obligations, because of the positive effects that this has on revitalizing their businesses.

The decision stipulated that the committee should study the applications submitted in accordance with the principles approved by the Council of Ministers, and raise the necessary recommendations for this purpose and in accordance with the rules.

Assigning the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supply to take over the management and supervision of the elections of the boards of directors of the Chambers of Commerce and the Chambers of Industry

On the other hand, the Council of Ministers approved the nomination of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply to assign the Independent Election Commission to take over the management and supervision of the elections of the boards of directors of the chambers of commerce and chambers of industry, and the elections of representatives of the commercial and industrial sectors.
