Al-Qatawneh raises a number of questions about the situation of drinking water in Karak Governorate

The representative of the Parliamentary Reform bloc, Ahmed Al-Qatawneh, asked the Minister of Water and Irrigation about the reality of drinking water in the Karak governorate.

Al-Qatawneh called on the government to clarify the annual drinking water quota for the Karak governorate and whether it suffices the actual needs of the citizens of drinking water, calling for clarification of the actual need of the residents of the governorate and the reasons for the lack of water reaching their homes for long periods.

The deputy inquired about the ministry’s plans to solve the problem of drinking water cut off from entire villages and areas in the Karak governorate, which has become a great suffering for the livelihood of citizens, and what are its projects to meet the estimated drinking water needs of the Karak governorate for the next five years?

Here is the text of the questions:

Honorable Speaker of the House of Representatives,

Based on the provisions of Article (96) of the Constitution, and pursuant to the provisions of Article (118) of the bylaws of the House of Representatives, I would like to direct the following question to His Excellency the Minister of Water and Irrigation.

Question text:

1- How much is the Karak governorate’s share of drinking water annually, and does it meet enough citizens’ actual need for drinking water, how much is the actual need of the governorate’s residents, and why do citizens in Karak suffer every year because of the lack of water to reach their homes for long periods?

2- What are the sources of water that feed Karak Governorate, and what is the quantity and percentage of water from each source?

3- What are the plans of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation to solve the problem of drinking water cut off from entire villages and areas in Karak Governorate, which has become a great suffering for the livelihood of citizens, and what are its projects to meet the estimated drinking water needs of Karak Governorate for the next five years?

4- What is the percentage of wastage of drinking water as a result of the need for water networks in Karak Governorate for maintenance and renewal?

5- How many artesian wells are in the Karak Governorate, and what are the uses for the water of these wells?

6- Does the government intend to connect the water networks of Karak Governorate and the governorates of southern Jordan with the water transmission line from Disi to Amman?

7- How far is the Disi water line to Amman from the nearest points of connection to the water network that feeds the Karak Governorate?

8- Why has the government not connected the water networks in the southern governorates (Ma’an, Tafileh, and Karak) to the line carrying Disi water to Amman since the establishment of the line that passes through these governorates, knowing that these governorates need sources of drinking water to meet the needs of the citizens in them?

9- What are the areas fed by the Disi water line in Amman?

10- How many wells have been drilled in the Disi area to serve and feed the line carrying Disi water to Amman?

11- Has Jordan regained all of its water rights in the Jordan River, which the Zionist enemy has assaulted since the occupation of Palestine in 1948? How much is Jordan’s share of the river’s water?
