Inspection of ships loaded with sulfur is a condition for receiving them

Today, Wednesday, the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority decided to prevent the reception of any ship loaded with sulfur in the ports of Aqaba unless the shipment was examined in one of the Kingdom’s specialized laboratories following the fire that broke out yesterday in a warehouse in the industrial complex south of Aqaba city and was dealt with by Civil defense salaries and control in record time.

The Commissioner for Tourism and Environment in the Authority, Dr. Nidal Al-Majali, announced a decision not to receive any sulfur ship in the ports of Aqaba unless there is a prior examination of sulfur in one of the Kingdom’s specialized laboratories and matching that with the country of origin, and accordingly a decision is taken to load or unload.

Al-Majali added that sulfur is easy to ignite in the event of friction and the presence of dust at high rates of more than 12 percent, stressing that the substance must come in the form of granules and the dust percentage in it does not exceed 5 percent, in order to ensure that combustion accidents are not repeated, pointing out that it must be What was sent from the country of origin exceeds at most 95 percent of the granules, which reduces the occurrence of friction and thus avoids fire.
