In a speech he delivered at the beginning of the Military Coordination Committee meeting, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, stressed that “the success of the armistice ultimately depends on building confidence between the parties. There is an opportunity to further enhance adherence to the truce during the Eid period. I welcome the commitment of the Military Coordination Committee to work towards effective de-escalation.”

He added, “I am pleased that the parties seized the opportunity of Eid al-Adha to reinforce their commitment to the truce, as stated in today’s statement.”
During the discussions, Brigadier General Hayward referred to reports of ongoing military activities across multiple fronts.

He added that the parties also agreed to work through the Military Coordination Committee and the Joint Coordination Chamber to enhance their efforts to build confidence and help create an environment conducive to dialogue and improve the situation for Yemeni civilians.

The parties also agreed to continue discussions focused on preventing or limiting as far as possible the movement of troops and military equipment and ways to exercise effective operational control to ensure that all forces understand and comply with their responsibilities in the armistice.
The envoy stressed that his office stands ready to support the parties in this regard, including providing technical assistance, capacity building and facilitating the decision-making process.
