The European Consumer Organization (BEUC) said on Saturday that Google requires users to accept options that limit the protection of their data when creating new accounts.
The organization explained in a statement that “10 European consumer protection associations filed a complaint against Google, accusing the American Internet giant of seeking to obtain more private data for users in order to maintain the growth of its business,” according to the European “Euro News” website.
“Google uses unclear, incomplete and misleading language that pushes users to choose less secure options for their personal data,” the statement said.
David Martin, a legal official at the European Consumer Organization, said that “Google’s business model is based on the collection and exploitation of this personal data for various purposes, specifically for targeted advertising purposes, and it is the main source of income for the company,” according to the same statement.
The Irish Data Authority is scheduled to deal with the complaint filed by consumer protection organizations against Google, which is based in Dublin, Europe.
