Scientists said that they have identified a new hybrid of the Corona virus, which they called “Deltacrone”, as it mixes the “Delta” and “Omicron” mutant.
According to the American network, NBC News, the new strain of Corona is considered a hybrid structure, which means that it carries the genetic information of both strains in its hollow.
Jeremy Camille, professor of microbiology and immunology at the University of Shreveport, Louisiana, said that the “delta” mutant had taken over the spike protein of “Omicron”. This protein plays a vital role in the penetration of the Corona virus into human cells.
It is too early to say whether “Deltachron” is different from “Delta” and “Omicron”, and its behavior is likely to be close to that of “Delta”, because the spike protein came from that strain.
And Etienne Laurier, a French virologist, estimates, according to the newspaper, “The New York Times”, that a body often recognizes the new mutant as an “omicron”, which means that the symptoms of “deltacrone” may resemble the previous mutant.
Therefore, the expected symptoms of “Deltakron”: runny nose, headache in the head, sneezing, sore throat and others.
Infections with the new mutation have been detected in the United States and a number of European countries, such as France, Germany and Denmark, but the number of these infections is limited.
This mutant was first reported in mid-February in the United States.
Scientists continue to study this hybrid and track the possibility of the emergence of other hybrid combinations of virus strains, in order to find out how the Corona virus can change and mutate, especially as it persists for a long time.
