The head of the Amman Chamber of Industry, Fathi Al-Jaghbir, said that the Kingdom’s stock of vegetable oils stored in factories and warehouses is sufficient for at least three months.
Jaghbir added that there are 7 factories that fill vegetable oil in Jordan, but they do not manufacture it.
He stressed that in recent months, the price of raw materials has increased, for example, the price of one ton of palm oil has risen from $700 to $2,400.
Jaghbir said that the current crisis “should give us an incentive to be self-reliant,” adding that the state should develop industries needed to produce vegetable oils.
However, he stressed that high operating costs in Jordan would discourage investors, calling for tackling obstacles such as high energy and transportation costs, as well as “high taxes and fees” on raw materials to boost industrialization.
