Fakher Daas, the coordinator of the national campaign for students’ rights, Dr. Fakher Daas, said that the statements of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Wajeh Owais, regarding not including the high school average in the calculation of university majors, are an attempt to “justify what cannot be justified,” and that this is a confusion in the policies of the Ministry of Higher Education. Higher Education.
Daas continued, in a statement to “Khabarni” website: The Ministries of Education and Higher Education must immediately retract the confusion that is taking place, indicating that there is a decision to implement the preparatory year in any way, and “the tendency is that they insist on the preparatory year,” commenting on Owais’s statement on the need to review University admission policies, and not including the high school average in the calculation of university majors.
The statement was considered a government circumvention on the preparatory year file, and “it seems that the government saw that the word preparatory year was provocative, and as a result of the attack on the preparatory year, it led to the government trying to manipulate terminology.”
Daas added that the Ministry of Higher Education knows that the preparatory year is absolutely rejected, because it does not provide justice and equal opportunities, stressing the necessity of maintaining high school accreditation as a single, fair and acceptable criterion for university admission.
