The US ambassador to Amman, Henry Wooster, said, in response to a question on the “Pulse of the Country” program on the “Roya” channel, this evening, Saturday, about the presence of interference by the US Embassy in Parliament to pass certain laws, that he “has no idea.” about this subject.
“I don’t know what the parliamentarians are saying, I’m not sure about that,” Wooster added, considering this talk as new news for him.
He continued, “I’ve heard the rumours, but the impression that we are planning things behind people’s back or apart from them, or twisting people’s arms to pass some legislation or any of that is a mystery to me.”
“I have no knowledge of any pressure from the US Embassy to twist any arm in the Jordanian parliament over anything whatsoever,” Wooster stressed.
With regard to the Jordanian signing of the Water Intent Agreement and the American pressure on Jordan and its prompting for this signing, Wooster stressed that this is not true, and that whoever speaks of these words is misleading.
He pointed out that the United States’ interest is to see Jordan diversify with its water resources, considering that this is an American and a Jordanian interest, “but I will not speak on behalf of Jordan.”
Wooster pointed out that the “Intentions Project” is a commercial deal between the private sectors of the three countries that agreed upon, not the United States, i.e. between Jordan, “Israel” and the UAE.
He continued: It is a commercially driven treaty, and we support and support it; Because Jordan needs to diversify its water supply sources.
On the national water carrier project and the US support for it, Wooster said that this project is one of the fruits of the Wadi Araba Treaty signed in 1994, noting that his country put $100 million in an escrow account to support this project.
He stressed his country’s keenness to see this project realized, but this was not achieved for economic and political reasons.
